What is TIC? Quite simply, Trout in the Classroom is a science curriculum. It is not a hatchery program. Students from grades K - 12 learn the importance of our natural resources through the lifecycle of the trout. FFCOC will try to provide refrigerated incubators and will obtain rainbow trout eggs from the California Department of Fish & Game. The eggs provide an important teaching tool for the instructor. They help the students visualize the trout's various stages of evolvement and learn the importance of our water shed, forests and the trout's ecosystem. Upon the course completion, students will have an opportunity to release their fry at a local lake or stream approved by the California Department of Fish & Game and the U.S. Forest Service.
FFCOC Involvement The FFCOC Membership is the cornerstone of TIC's success! Club members will provide schools with an in-service training and the manpower needed to assist the instructors. Many of our members possess a wealth of knowledge in entomology, others are certified to introduce your students to the art of fly casting or fly tying. We will coordinate your trout egg delivery with the Department of Fish & Game. We will also recommend a site for the release of trout fry and will provide an educational program at the release site for your students.
Award Winning Program The Fly Fishers Club of Orange County has received national recognition and numerous accolades for its effort in "Trout in the Classroom". The National Federation of Fly Fishers, the Kaiser Permanente Foundation, California Department of Education, Orange County Board of Supervisors and the Orange County Harbors, Beaches and Parks Commission have awarded FFCOC with grant funding for its TIC program.
